JASON

My story

Instead of coming home from the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics with a the Gold Medal I expected, as a member of Canada's men's eight in rowing, I came home with the utter disillusionment about my "win at all costs" approach to racing. Over the next decade, I began to question what had been the only way I knew how to compete. Then, in 2000, I began coaching at a high school on Vancouver Island. I was determined to find success without focusing on winning. Instead, I encouraged my athletes to strive for personal and team excellence - with no extrinsic measurements. The result was they not only won four Canadian National Championships, but set an unofficial High School World Record Time.

I draw on my experiences as a competitor and coach that will show you how to succeed - to be the best you can possibly be - by taking the focus off winning.
